6 ingredients to make this rich & creamy Dairy Free Peanut Butter Frosty! Tastes like the real deal, but made from whole foods, making it a healthy dessert! Vegan and gluten-free!
Summer is winding down, but that doesn’t mean the cold treats have to stop! I recently became obsessed with making smoothies. Okay, well I have always kind of been obsessed, but I go through phases sometimes and this summer the obsession started up again. With training for a marathon, I’ve been eating more and more food and adding smoothies is an easy way to get in more food. And with it being 100+ degrees for like forever (or so it seems), something to cool you off is always welcomed.
I’m always experimenting with my smoothie creations. Sometimes I hit the nail on the head and other times I just have to stuck it up and just drink a weird flavor combo that I thought would work. I definitely have a few favorites ingredients I love to put in them though. One of them being frozen sweet potatoes – if you love this recipe, I highly recommend this chocolate protein smoothie too.
With my experimenting, I landed on this peanut butter frosty recipe earlier this summer and it’s the bomb. Michael loves it too and says it tastes like a real deal Wendy’s Frosty (+ peanut butter). That’s saying a lot coming from the guy who used to have a Wendy’s keychain that would give you a free Frosty every time you went…he knows his stuff. Best part is, it’s loaded with good for you ingredients and you won’t feel crappy after eating it.
And since my 30th birthday was yesterday, it feels like the best way to celebrate (along with some puppy kisses if you missed my exciting news on Instagram)!
Dairy Free Peanut Butter Frosty (Vegan)
I already said the main ingredient in this bad boy, but the the rest of them are just as simple, you probably already have them in your house!
- almond milk
- sweet potato (I used a white one)
- banana
- avocado
- peanut butter
- cacao powder
- sea salt
Throw everything into you Vitamix or high powdered blender and you have the perfect rich and dreamy peanut butter frosty in under 2 minutes. I like my smoothies ‘eat with a spoon’ kind of thick, so if that is not your style, you can use more liquid. You can also add protein powder to bump that up, or sub peanut butter powder if you don’t want as much fat. If you don’t do peanut butter, almond butter or cashew butter would be a great sub as well.
To make it super easy on yourself to whip up this frosty, keep some frozen sweet potato and bananas stocked in your freezer at all times! They are staple in our house for smoothie making and really do make the best creamy consistency. This dairy free peanut butter frosty makes the perfect after dinner healthy dessert or snack when you are craving something sweet, but still want to keep it clean. Perfect adults and kiddos!

Maribel says
What can I substitute the sweet potato with?
Kelly says
Hi Maribel! You can use more frozen banana or maybe even cooked and frozen butternut squash. I have also done frozen zucchini and cauliflower rice. It might change the flavor some, but still should work. Hope that helps!
