Homemade Paleo Blueberry Breakfast Sausage – just pork, spices, and fresh blueberries make an easy sugar free and Whole30 approved breakfast side!
Happy day 10 if you are doing a January Whole30!! While I am currently not (truly loving my food freedom at the moment), I remember that during last Whole30, it was around this time that I didn’t want to look at eggs. I usually don’t tire easy of foods, but man I wasn’t feeling them. So today I’m bringing you an easy egg-free breakfast that is paleo and Whole30 compliant – blueberry breakfast sausage!
This recipe is inspired by the blueberry breakfast sausages they have at Whole Foods. Not sure if you have tried them, but I had them a few times and really enjoy them! They are little sweet and a perfect accompaniment to a savory breakfast.
If you look at the ingredients in theirs, they are sweetened with maple syrup and brown sugar and also have canola oil in them. So I decided to make my own! I find the blueberries add enough sweetness to offset the fatty sausage and without the added sugar, they are paleo and Whole30 approved!
How to make Paleo Blueberry Breakfast Sausage (Whole30)
Making sausage at home is really quite simple. While they will more than likely be in patty form rather than link form, they are still just as delicious. All you need is some meat, some ad-ins if you like, and your spices/seasonings. Here is what you will need to make these blueberry breakfast sausages:
- ground pork
- garlic powder
- cinnamon
- ginger
- allspice
- fresh blueberries
- salt and pepper
- oil, for frying
To make the sausage patties, just simply mix together the sausage with your spices. Then mix carefully mix in the blueberries – it’s okay for some of them to burst, but you don’t want all of them too. Then just form into patties and fry them up!
Meal prep Blueberry Breakfast Sausage
These homemade sausages are great for meal prep!! Make a batch in the beginning of the week (I love to meal prep on Sunday) and you have an easy breakfast side during the week. Serve them alongside some greens, crispy breakfast potatoes, and some eggs. Or if you don’t like eggs, or are just plain sick of them, skip the eggs and have 2-4 sausages!
Using a different meat
While I haven’t tried it, I think using ground chicken or ground turkey would work just fine for this recipe. It will change the nutrition profile some by boosting the protein and lowering the fat.

Paleo Blueberry Breakfast Sausage (Whole30)

- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon

- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 cup blueberries (80 grams)
- salt and pepper, to taste
- oil, for frying
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, add pork and spices and mix to combine. Stir in blueberries, being careful not to pop them all (a few popped will be just fine as it distributes the flavor). Form into 8 equal size patties.
- Heat up a large sauté pan or cast iron over medium heat, adding oil if desired and depending on pan. Let it get hot, about 30 seconds. Add sausage patties and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through. Serve with your favorite breakfast items and enjoy!

These are so good! I made them as part of my meal prep this week. My husband was like, “what the heck are you doing” when he saw me mix blueberry with sausage. Not something we probably ever would have done if I didn’t see you make them in insta. Thanks for sharing!

Not going to lie I was a little skeptical of blueberry sausage, but I was in a meal prep breakfast rut and needed something different! This sausage is AMAZING! Definitely adding it to our list of foods to always keep on hand in the freezer for easy breakfast (or dinner). Thank you so much!
Yay! I love this! It’s a great combo of sweet and savory. So glad you liked them Angela and thanks for trying!
This is the best recipe for blueberry sausage I’ve tried! A great blend of spices! I used ground turkey instead of pork since that’s what I had on hand. They were really tasty, but I was missing the fat. I will definitely be making these again with ground pork per the recipe.
Yay! So glad you enjoyed them Shannon!! Thanks for trying them 🙂

Yay!! Happy to hear everyone liked it Amanda, thank you for trying it!
I had a hard time Integrating the blueberries into the sausage they wouldn’t really mix in and kept falling out during cooking 🙁 any tips ?
Hey Rebecca! You do need to be pretty careful when mixing and being really delicate. The smaller blueberries tend to work a little better since they aren’t as large. I try to make sure they are covered by some of the meat mixture to help them stay in place, but it is a little more tricky than just stirring and mixing. For cooking, you need to make sure you flip them carefully. I hope that helps some!
These were really yummy! I just wish I added a bit more salt or garlic powder to my mixture – Kelly does say “salt and pepper, to taste” so that was my bad. 🙂 I used ground turkey instead of ground pork. I loved the cinnamon/allspice flavor in there too! Thank you 🙂
Glad you liked them Kariann! Ground turkey sounds good too!
