Doing Things
All the things this past month, it was insane. I will try to do my best to hit on everything!
The month started off just where February ended – more wedding venue searching. Literally so many places. And they were all so different. I’m not one to make big decisions too often so it was a little stressful at times, but I think we might have found a winner – more on that later though.
My mom headed back home (to go to Florida) in the beginning of February and we celebrated her last night here with going to Tomo. If you live in Austin and haven’t been, they have the best sushi and it’s so so good! Always a good laugh when your parents try to use chopsticks too haha!
My dad hung around for another 2 weeks and we got so many projects done! But first we went to a mezcal tasting! Kimo Sabe was nice enough to invite me to a tasting and I brought my dad and Michael. It was my dad’s first time trying it and he really enjoyed it, and we had a blast at the event!
Back to the projects – from ripping down our patio roof and building a new one, to painting our living room, painting our garage, building a clothes line, and building a garden – so many things got accomplished. I’m so thankful he was able to stay and help us with all these things. It was a great bonding time and and also fun for him and Michael to work on some projects together.
Since my dad loves BBQ, I took him to Franklin BBQ! We waited in line for an hour and a half or so (maybe 2?), but it was worth it! We legit ordered all the things, and a shit ton of them. We were definitely BBQ’d out afterwards, but it was a fun experience!
For SXSW I went to an event hosted by PRE. It is always fun to get to know the people behind brands you love. I also got to met Alex from The Defined Dish which was so fun! Her and Carly from Frolic and Flow hosted a meet up at Picnik and it was fun chatting with them and a bunch of people about health and wellness.
My dad left mid month and we kept it pretty low key for a week or so. Having people in your house for a month straight and doing all the things makes you a little tired. I tried out Vinaigrette with a friend also went to a brunch hosted my Kodiak Cakes at Lenoir. They made a bunch of dishes featuring their product and everything was amazing. And it was so fun meeting the people behind the brand and hearing their story.
By the way, it was my first time at Lenoir and it is super cute. Potential rehearsal dinner spot?!
Then what I figured was going to be a typical Saturday of some work and cleaning, turned into the best Saturday. My sister flew in and surprised me (literally scared the shit of out me) for her Spring break!!! I don’t think I have seen her since the fall so it was the best surprise. And we did all the things – she helped us finish planting our garden and some flowers, recipe testing, got some work done, and ate a lot of good food.
We also went out and drank A LOT and enjoyed ourselves (something I haven’t done in awhile).
The month ended just how it started – more wedding stuff! But I think we made our final decision and picked our venue! The rest is downhill from there right? We celebrated with drinks and a night of bowling!
What I am loving
Having a little garden! While we haven’t gotten anything out of it yet, it is nice to have something to look after and take care of. I need to make sure I am watering it and weeding it and just hoping for the best! I need some projects to take my mind off work and even though it’s not a huge one, it is definitely fun.
Kaffir Lime fried chicken. We went to Elizabeth Street Cafe and I got a noodle bowl with that on top and it was amazing. I don’t know if it is possible, but I want to see if I can recreate it somehow.
Last, but certainly not least and the same a last month, having my family here. Since I don’t get to see them too often, it was amazing having them here. We don’t always get along and can bicker at each other over dumb shit, but they are the best family a girl could ask for. And I am so grateful to have a job where I can enjoy having company for practically a month straight and do things like wait in line for BBQ for 2 hours, look at countless wedding venues, and go shopping with my sister all in the middle of a typical “work day”.
Now here’s to April! I will be doing the Whole30 to support my mom and dad doing one so I’m sure it is going to look a lot different ha!
