Woohhoo!! My first blog post! Thanks everyone for stopping by, and by everyone I mean my sister, boyfriend, hopefully my parents, and the handful of other people I told haha. I am pretty excited to start sharing some good workouts and simple yet delicious and nutritious meals.
How was everyone’s Valentine’s Day? Did you do anything special? Ours was pretty relaxed, which I really enjoyed. I started mine out with a pretty gruesome workout (which I’ll get to in a minute), we ran some errands, went to the grocery store to get stuff for dinner, and made an amazing dinner. At the store we picked up some asparagus, sweet potatoes, filet mignon, and a baguette. That place was crazy packed. I guess everyone was doing what we were doing or picking up stuff last minute. They even had a tent setup outside for ‘express valentine pickup’. They had flowers, chocolate, and what not set up out there…smart thinking Central Market, way to be on your A game. We just threw the sweet p’s and asparagus in the oven to roast and then wrapped the filet in some bacon we already had at the house and cooked it in the cast iron skillet. It was so good! We hadn’t had steak in a pretty long time, so it was definitely a nice treat for the night. I really enjoyed the asparagus as well – it reminded me of summer and when I was younger and my dad would bring home literally 15 pounds of freshly picked asparagus from NJ. Stinky pee for the whole summer, but so worth it haha. Oh and for dessert we had some strawberries dipped in an almond butter maple syrup sauce we made. Perfect ending.
(I definitely ate more sweet potato and asparagus after dinner)
So for as what this post is supposed to be about…the workout I did! Fran twice with some running, talk about brutal. For those of you not familiar with CrossFit, Fran is a benchmark workout that all CrossFits do. It consist of thrusters (95/65#) and pull-ups in the rep scheme of 21-15-9…so 21 thrusters, 21 pull-ups, 15 thrusters, 15 pull-ups, and then the 9 round. The point of the workout is pretty much an all out sprint, no time for breaks or water. It’s probably one of my least favorite workouts in CrossFit. Thrusters make me feel like I want to cry and I can’t breathe. So yeah, not fun.
The workout we had to do yesterday was a 400m run, Fran, 800m run, Fran, and then one last 400m run. The only good thing about this workout is that you didn’t have to all out sprint Fran. So you weren’t completely gasping for air after the first Fran, but then you are on the 800m run and are like sh*t, I need to do that all over again. Definitely pretty mental when you get back in the gym.
I finished in 22:55 RX, with the time cap being 25 minutes. Overall I was pretty happy with that. My Garmin said I burned 236 calories, which I don’t think it is completely accurate for CrossFit since it is a running watch, but whatever. My heart rate was pretty high most of the time, which is what I like to see. I felt like my heart was still racing 10 minutes after the workout and was pretty beat the rest of the day, so I guess you can say it was a good workout.
Let me know if you guys try out the workout or any other good workouts you have done recently!
