June Whole30 Week 1 Recap

Recapping the first week of my second Whole30!

Whole30 Week 1

Happy Friday! I am a little over a week into my second Whole30 and wanted to do a little recap of how I am feeling, what I am craving, and other random things. If you missed it, here is my first post on the beginning of my Whole30:

The Start of Whole30 #2

So far so good I would say! The first few days I was starving. Literally just watching the clock tick until it was time for my next meal. I didn’t want to eat too early cause then I would be hungry again. I just focused on drinking a lot of water, which seemed to help. I upped my food some and now I am feeling good in-between meals.

Speaking of food, I am eating so much I feel! Before I started the Whole30 I was eating mostly a plant based diet with some meat and dairy a few times a week. Now I am eating meat probably 1-3 times a day, along with a lot of starchy veggies, green veggies, and some fruit. And I feel good, maybe even a little leaner than before.

I feel like my sleep is pretty solid and haven’t had too many crazy craving. It is more of just breaking habits that I used to do all the time (snacking and making a dessert after dinner). I am also keeping my water intake high with about a gallon a day.

I have been good about not snacking, but I have done it here and there. It is mostly when I am recipe testing…I mean I have to try the stuff I make, and then while making dinner. I am usually hungry so I will eat some of the veggies I am cutting up while I prepare everything.

Things I miss

Smoothie bowls – good lord how I miss a good smoothie bowl. Smoothies are not totally off limits, but are not encouraged so I figured I would cut them out for a month. I had been eating them everyday for probably 3+ months now so I knew it was going to be hard. It is probably best that they are out since I should be relying on whole foods more.

Whole30 Week 1

Snacks – I was snacking all the time before. I would literally come home and go right to the fridge for a snack, even if I wasn’t super hungry! That is not good. I think I was just so in the routine of snacking that it just became habit. It just feels weird now not to snack, but it is helping cut out unneeded food that I was eating.

Real Life Stuff

If this is a little TMI then sorry, but I just want to put it out there for other people if they are experiencing/have experienced the same thing. If you are a dude, then you can skip this part.

Ever since junior year of college, my menstrual cycle has been all over the place. At that time I had stopped birth control and became a vegetarian. I won’t go into too much detail, but I barely ever got it. Just this first week on the Whole30 it has come back. I am pretty sure my body needed the extra protein and iron that it wasn’t used to getting. Even though I know I eat a healthy diet, sometimes I might not be nourishing myself to full potential. It goes to show that eating real, whole, nutrient dense foods is what the body needs to function properly.

Right now my body feels good and so do my workouts. The first week and been great and I am excited for the next few!
