A recap of my weekly workouts from the previous week.
It’s that time of year again. The CrossFit Open is officially upon us. I talked about it briefly last week, but the Open is when everyone in the CrossFit community competes to try make it to the games. There are 5 workouts announced for 5 weeks (1 each week), everyone does the workouts, and then you record your scores in hopes to making it to regionals. The top 20 or so athletes in your region compete against each other and then the top 3 go on to the CrossFit Games.
I am in no way making it to regionals, but it is super fun to do the workouts and see how you stand against some of the top CrossFitters in the world. The workouts are usually pretty brutal, but can be fun nonetheless. The best part about CrossFit is the community and this time of year definitely shows it. There are teenagers to grandparents doing the same workout, some for fun and some competitively, but everyone has the same goal – to give it their all and finish the workouts. This is the time of year when everyone gets behind our friends/teammates/competitors and cheers them on. I get the privilege to watch this happen when I coach and it is amazing.
Sunday – garage workout on vacation
In a group of 3:
400m run
50 thrusters
200m plate carry
50 kettlebell swings
30 burpees
50 front squats
50 shoulder to overhead
400m run
This was just to get moving, we didn’t time ourselves or anything. Everyone does the run and burpees, split up the other movements however you like.
Monday – on vacation in San Fran
Tuesday – on vacation in San Fran/walked 4 miles around the town we were staying in
Wednesday – CrossFit City Limits Endurance workout
5 RTF:
800m run
50 double unders
10 strict pull-ups
I finished in 36:12 and only doing 8 strict pull-ups each round. It was definitely a little rough coming back from vacation and doing this. I just felt really out of shape. First one back is always a little tough.
Thursday – CrossFit City Limits open gym workout
3 RFT:
25 wallballs (20/14)
20 kettlebell swings (53/35)
15 pull-ups
10 back squats (225/155)
I finished in 12:42 using 115# for my squats.
Friday – Ro Fitness class
Saturday – CrossFit City Limits workout
CrossFit Games Open 17.1
For Time (RX):
10 dumbbell snatches (50/35)
15 burpee box jump-overs (24/20)
20 DB snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
30 DB snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
40 DB snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
50 DB snatches
15 burpee box jump-overs
I finished in 18:50RX. I honestly thought I wasn’t going to finish when I saw the workout (I thought the snatches would get me), but it wasn’t as bad as I thought. I went at a pace that was probably slower than I normally do, but I was able to keep that pace the whole time and finish under the time cap.

All the burpees and heavy weights make my muscles hurt just thinking about it; I LOVE it though because those kind of quick heavy, hard workouts are really fun.

Totally agree! No need for long and boring workouts when you can work hard for a shorter amount of time!
