All about the Daysy Fertility Tracker and the fertility awareness method, its effectiveness, my personal Daysy review, and a discount code if you would like to try one for yourself!

This post is not sponsored by Daysy, but they sent me a fertility tracker to try and use. They also gave y’all a discount using this link if you are interested in trying it. Thank you Daysy!

Today we are taking a break from the typical recipes and switching topics talking all about the fertility awareness method, how I use a Daysy Fertility Tracker to track my cycle, my Daysy review, and a discount code (just use this link for $75 off) if you want to try the fertility awareness method.

Please note that this post is personal and is my own opinion on using a Daysy fertility monitor. I am not a doctor or medical practitioner and it is best to seek their advice if you are struggling. Women’s fertility is such a hard subject to talk about. I am no expert, but I do know many women struggle with being fertile and having healthy hormones. This is just my story.

A little background about my journey:

If you guys have been following along for some time, you know I’ve been on a mission to heal my body and hormones over the past year and a half. A decade of overexercising, under-eating, and binge eating really does a number on your body.

I’m happy to say that I’ve come a long way through – my body is feeling pretty great and my hormones are better than they have ever been. I’m not perfect, but it’s a work in progress.

Long story short, I didn’t have my period for almost 10 years. I stopped hormonal birth control in 2008 and due to my diet and exercise routine, my cycle stopped as well. As I’ve gotten older, I realized this was not okay. Sure in my early-mid 20s it was awesome (figuratively), but not as I get older. I am now 31 years old, married, and kids might be in our future at some point. And a cycle is needed for that.

Once I realized I needed my cycle back in my life, I’ve really changed the way I eat, how I work out, and how I treat my body. I ate a ton more food, especially carbs and fat, ate more red meat, dialed back my workout routine, took some supplements (zinc, maca, and vitex worked well for me), and started seed cycling (again, adding more healthy fats to my diet). I also tried to reduce my stress level, which can be hard when you run your own business.

And really started listening to my body. Eat more food because you’re hungry. Don’t work out when you are tired. Over the past few years, I also gained some weight that I needed on my body. With all of these changes, my cycle came back and is now pretty normal.

Now that I have my cycle

So now here we are married and ready to have kids. KIDDING! Sorry, dad.

To be honest, I am pretty scared to have kids. I have never felt a huge calling to them and it’s just kind of a gray area. I can see myself with or without them. I’m warming up to it, but it’s a huge thing to embark on. But I do know that when we are ready, my body will hopefully be ready with all the changes I have done and using the fertility awareness method and Daysy.

Fertility Awareness Method

First, let’s talk about the fertility awareness method. Did you know you can’t just get pregnant on any day of your cycle? I didn’t know this until a couple of years ago and I’m pretty sure a lot of women don’t know this.

You can only get pregnant around ovulation when your body releases an egg. Sperm can live in the body for 5-6 days though. So if you have sex a handful of days before you ovulate and sperm is still in your body, you have a chance to get pregnant. The egg is only viable for a maximum of 24 hours, so 24 hours after you ovulate, you are no longer fertile.

“Fertility awareness method is a collection of methods using your body’s natural functioning to determine the days of the month you are most likely to get pregnant. It is a method of birth control that does not use any drugs or devices. It combines the calendar/rhythm method, the basal body temperature method, and the cervical mucus method. The fertility awareness method is used both as a means of preventing pregnancy and as a way to target the most fertile time for getting pregnant.” – American Pregnancy Association

It is a great way to get to know your body and your cycle and is 100% natural. And this is where Daysy comes in!

What is a Daysy Fertility Tracker

Daysy is an intelligent fertility tracker that allows you to get to know your own menstrual cycle. It helps facilitate conception and track your cycle.

With Daysy, you measure your basal body temperature (BBT) first thing in the morning with an advanced temperature sensor. Then it analyzes your measurement with the algorithm, which incorporates data from 5 million menstrual cycles and 30 years of research, and can tell you whether you are in your fertile phase or not.

Daysy makes it easy to know when you are fertile by taking your waking temperature, tracking the data, and calculating when you are in your fertile and infertile phases. If you want to get pregnant, you would have unprotected sex when it says you are fertile.

Your first 2-4 cycles are considered your learning phase. After that, Daysy starts to understand your cycle and narrows down your fertile window.

How to use a Daysy Fertility Tracker

First thing in the morning as soon as you wake, and before you get out of bed, you take your temperature. Make sure not to get up as that can affect your temperature. Simply turn it on, push the start button, and place it under your tongue. After about a minute, Daysy will tell you if you are fertile or not.

It will give you one of the following lights by doing so:

  • red light – fertile or possibly fertile
  • red flashing light – your predicted day of ovulation
  • green light – not fertile
  • yellow light – Daysy is in its learning phase
  • red, green, yellow – possible pregnancy
Screenshot of the different lights a Daysy fertility monitor can give and what each one indicates.

Daysy records your menstrual cycle history so that you always know what is happening in your body and offers a reliable and precise ovulation calculation.

I have the 2.0 version which uses Bluetooth to link up to the Daysyview app on my smartphone. Every week or so, I will sync the two and see when my next cycle is coming. It also shows you your ovulation day, when you are fertile, and when you are not fertile. You can also add your own personal notes if you like.

If you forget what showed up that morning, you can always turn it on and it will show you or you can sync with the app to check later on in the day.

Is the Daysy Fertility Tracker effective?

You might be wondering how it knows whether you are fertile or not and how effective it is. Like I mentioned above, women are only fertile around ovulation. When you ovulate, you release an egg, and that is when you can get pregnant.

The reason you are fertile on more than just that day is that sperm can live in the body for up to 6 days. During ovulation, your basal body temperature rises and is detected by Daysy. After the learning phases where Daysy gets to know your body, the algorithm begins to predict your ovulation and starts your fertile window five days before the earliest possible date of your ovulation.

Daysy uses this information (and the data from 5 million other cycles!) to predict with accuracy when you ovulate. Daysy’s algorithm draws on knowledge from more than 30 years of research, including several studies.

Where do you measure?

This is actually a question I got a few times. Since it is a tool to test fertility, one might not be sure where to measure it, if you know what I mean. Thankfully, they make it easy and you measure your temperature under your tongue all the way towards the back of your mouth. It’s best to measure on the same side every morning.

How to log your period with Daysy

If you are menstruating, it is super easy to let Daysy know. Simply turn it on, then press the activation button until the violet light lights up without flashing and you hear a beep. Do this every morning you are actively bleeding.

If you get your period later on in the day, simply go back to your Daysy, turn it on, and then enter your period.

Can Daysy detect pregnancy?

Daysy will indicate a possible pregnancy with all lights (red, green, and yellow) flashing. Daysy will indicate a higher probability of pregnancy with all lights solidly lit (red, green, and yellow). However, Daysy is not a pregnancy test; only a pregnancy test or blood test can tell you if you’re pregnant for sure.

Will insurance cover Daysy?

Daysy can be covered by insurance too! Check with your insurance company to see if they can cover some of the cost. You can also use an FSA or HSA to purchase Daysy. Daysy is $299, but is $284 when you use my link and get $15 off! If your insurance company covers 60%, that leaves you paying around $114.

How long does the Daysy Fertility Tracker last?

The device can last five-plus years, and with care, will likely last a lot longer. It has a 2-year warranty.

Daysy Review

I’ve been using my Daysy for a few months now and love it! It’s easy to use, accurate, and only takes about 1 minute of my morning. I will say it did take me a little bit to get used to using it.

Since you need to take your temperate as soon as you wake, you need to remember not to get out of bed right away. Not even to use the bathroom! As soon as I wake up, I reach over and grab my Daysy, turn it on, and take my temperature while laying in bed.

It’s kind of part of my morning routine now. After I do that, I chug some water that I leave next to my bed and start the day. Once you make it part of your morning routine, it’s easy to remember!

Another thing to note is that Daysy takes time to get to know your cycle. During the first few months, I would get a lot of red and yellow lights as I just didn’t know my body yet. It was definitely frustrating, but after some time it learns your cycle and narrows down your fertile window.

Overall, I love my Daysy! My cycle has been so irregular (and practically nonexistent) the last decade of my life, but now that it has been somewhat consistent for the past year, it makes it so easy to know when I am ovulating and helps predict my cycle. It is no longer a guessing game.

The main reason I choose Daysy is that it is all-natural. After years of not getting my period and doctors trying to prescribe me medications and hormones to fix it, I love that is safe, all-natural, and an accurate way to track fertility. This is the only FAM method I have tried as I didn’t need one previously when I was not menstruating. To be extra cautious, I also use condoms.

Also, Daysy customer support is amazing! I was a little confused as to how to log my period so I sent the customer service team an email. They were super responsive and laid out exactly how to do it. I had more questions and they answered those as well. It really made me feel good about the company and everyone’s knowledge of the product.

I love Daysy!! It has been a life changer for both my sister and me!! We both have used the Daysy, and it has been super accurate!!! I am very regular and very cautious about ALWAYS using a barrier on “red” days. My sister had baby making sex just once when her Daysy was flashing red and that one night was all it took for her to become a mommy, just like Daysy predicted.

I was spending the night with them at their apartment the night she had her “oops”. On an impulse earlier that day I decided to be nosy and check her Daysy. When I saw it was flashing red, I couldn’t resist the chance to put Daysy to the test and find out just how accurate Daysy really is. I switched her Daysy with mine (which was safely green), and I made sure to empty their box of condoms in the trash. We all had a lot to drink that night, and her husband insisted on having “green night” sex with her when he saw MY Daysy showing green on her nightstand. She knew something had to be wrong with her Daysy but discovered the empty condom box only after a lot of foreplay, and her hormones and sex drive and a very eager husband got the better of her brain. She let hubby give her a belly full that night, and Mother Nature did the rest.. Just like Daysy predicted, it was perfect timing for making a baby. I was really impressed with Daysy’s accuracy!

Wow Kimmi, that is so crazy! It’s been so beneficial for us to know when we need to be careful and when we don’t. I’m so glad you love yours so much! They are great!

Thanks, Kelly! That was exactly my reaction, too, when I found out my little experiment had actually gotten her pregnant! I know for a fact they had unprotected sex only once because my sister was trying to be super careful. I was so impressed how easy it was using Daysy to pick the perfect night for them to conceive their first child.
