I’ll make this post short and sweet. This is a workout we did last week at CrossFit. When it is your birthday you can pick a WOD a few days before and our coaches will program it on your birthday. So this is the WOD that Ben choose. I don’t really know Ben, but I am guessing he likes burpees, since the WHOLE WOD was just BURPEES. I don’t really mind burpees, so it wasn’t that big of deal for me. There are definitely people that do not like them though…probably like 75% of people I would guess. I am pretty sure half the people that usually go to CrossFit didn’t go this day just because of all the burpees. I mean it’s 210 total and you aren’t doing any other movements, so I get it. But you really shouldn’t cherry pick your workouts. The only way to get better at something is to practice.
Ben’s Birthday Burpee Madness
20 x 1:00 rounds
10-20-5-11-2-18-6-15-4-8-17-3-13-9-12-14-16-7-19-1
So this is how the workouts works. It is composed of 20 1:00 rounds. Each minute you have to do that amount of reps of burpees listed…so the first minute you do 10, second minute 20, third minute 5, fourth minute 11, and so on. If you miss some reps on a round, then deduct that from your total score (210-x=total number of reps). The workout is pretty easy in the beginning as you have some solid rest times by having the lower reps between the bigger sets. Where it gets a little spicy is the start of 13 burpees. The next couple rounds are some bigger numbers with not that much rest, so you just gotta push through it.
I finished all 210 reps, but like I said, I don’t mind burpees. Definitely give it a go. It would be a good workout to do and then a little bit down the road to do again to see if you improved. A little advice – just do the smaller sets somewhat quick. It will give you more time to rest. No need to sprint 5 burpees, but don’t go so slow that you only have 10 seconds to rest.
